Horizon Zero Dawn, first-party PlayStation exclusive coming to PC on summer

Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the most successful games in the current generation. The first-party Playstation exclusive debuted in 2017 and was brought by the Playstation-owned studio Guerilla Games. Now, three years after the launch in PS4, Sony International Entertainment will bring it to the PC platform.

PlayStation Worldwide Studios head Hermen Hulst confirmed the already-rumored port in a Q&A over on the Playstation Blog, adding that the team at Guerilla plans to share more information on exactly what that Horizon Zero Dawn PC port will include “pretty soon.”

With the launch, Horizon Zero Dawn will become one of the few games first launched as exclusive to cross over to PC. It will follow the footsteps of SIE-developed MLB The Show 20 and Kojima Productions’ third-party exclusive Death Stranding. Worth noting that Death Stranding was also developed in Guerilla’s Decima Engine and will debut for PCs in June this year.

Despite those recent launches, Hulst maintains that Horizon Zero Dawn’s PC debut doesn’t necessarily mean a larger shift on strategy. He states that this game was a particularly good fit for PC so, in this case, a port made sense. It’s a smart strategy, we have to say. After all, the game debuted as PlayStation exclusive in 2017 and sold above ten million units. Now, the PC owners will have the chance to buy the game and it can sell even more.

“I think it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation. We can show people maybe what they’ve been missing out on,” explains Hulst. “And to maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC. In my mind, Horizon Zero Dawn was just a great fit in this particular instance.”
