Hello, avid gamers of Mobigaming. We all love mobile games and that’s why you are here. We’re living the best era for mobile / portable gaming experience. After all, rather than just get new games, we’re getting exciting hardware for our gaming sessions from smartphone makers. The mobile gaming segment gave life to a new range of smartphones with extremely powerful specifications, stylish design, and innovative technologies. It’s interesting to see that companies are even more courageous to try new things with gaming phones than they are with standard smartphones.
We’re still waiting for Lenovo legion to come and join the gang of gaming smartphones this year, we decided to build a list of the Top Gaming Phones of 2020 so far. The gaming segment is trending and its popularity will only grow with the arrival of new hardware. Without further ado, let’s go to the list of Top Gaming Phones of 2020.
Black Shark 3 / 3 Pro
The Black Shark 3 and 3 Pro are Xiaomi’s high bet on the gaming range. This year, the company took the wraps off two new devices with high-end features and gorgeous design.
The Black Shark 3 series is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The handset also includes 256GB of onboard UFS 2.0 storage. The Pro variant is built around a massive 7.1-inch QHD+ AMOLED panel with 3,120 x 1,440 pixels of resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The handset has a 270Hz touch sampling rate, so it has a better response time while gaming. We get 19:5:9 aspect ratio and support for MEMC motion compensation technology.
The Shark 3 Pro innovates this year with pop-up shoulder buttons. They act as trigger buttons while gaming. Therefore resulting in a true console controller-like experience. The handset packs a 5,000mAh battery that charges via 65W charging tech. If you’re not desperate for the fast-charging you can also opt for the 18W output via the magnetic charging dock.
Nubia Red Magic 5G
The recently released Nubia Red Magic 5G is the world’s first smartphone to offer a display with a 144Hz refresh rate. That crazy amount puts it ahead of the competition. Nubia’s smartphone offers a 6.65-inch AMOLED display with 2,340 x 1080 pixels of resolution. It also features a 240Hz touch sampling rate and 19:5:9 aspect ratio. It is also TUV Rheinland certified for cutting down blue light exposure. We can see that Nubia opted for the FHD+ resolution to not increase in the costs. After all, a 144Hz panel with QHD+ resolution could elevate the handset’s final price. We can say that it was a smart choice.
The Nubia Red Magic 5G is also powered by the almighty Snapdragon 865 chipset. The handset is paired with up to 16GB of dual-channel LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. The handset comes with an internal 15,000RPM fan to keep things cool and improve the gaming experience. It also includes a set of liquid cooling features to add in the package.
Just like the Black Shark duo, the Red Magic phone is equipped with two capacitive shoulder buttons that provide haptic feedback and offer a touch sampling rate of 300Hz. The battery is adequate with 4,500mAh, it also comes with 55W air-cooled turbo fast charge technology.
After a succesful debut in 2019, Vivo launched its sub-brand iQOO in a sole adventure as a separate brand. This new adventure resulted in iQOO 3, perhaps one of the most elegant gaming smartphones of 2020. Well, you may enjoy the gaming-focused design of the Nubia and BlackShark smartphones, however, they are bulky and sometimes fancy for overall smartphone experience. iQOO 3 joins the best of both worlds. If you want a smartphone with solid specs, but that looks like a regular smartphone the iQOO 3 is your choice.
The iQOO 3 features a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels. The handset has 409 pixels-per-inch and an overall aspect ratio of 20:9. The handset supports HDR10+ and 180HZ touch-sensing. Unfortunately, the refresh rate remains at 60Hz. Making it the less appealing display among gaming smartphones of 2020.
As the other flagships, the iQOO 3 also features Snapdragon 865 SoC. It comes paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR 5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The side features two pressure sensitive areas called “Monster Touch” buttons, thus allowing users to perform multi-finger operations during gameplay and offer better grip and comfort. The smartphone packs a 4,400mAh battery and offers 55W Super FlashCharge Technology.
