Cyberpunk 2077 sales raised significantly after launch on PS5

The debut of Cyberpunk 2077 was marked by the most diverse controversies, from the serious technical problems of reproduction on the last generation consoles to the withdrawal of the title from the PS Store. However, it appears that the re-release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has significantly boosted sales of the futuristic RPG.

As reported by CD Projekt RED CEO Adam Kicinski at a recent financial conference (via Push Square), the title’s new-gen debut “improved the public’s perception of its quality”. As a result, the game accounted for most of the company’s revenue in the last fiscal quarter of 2021 — the window between January and March.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a commercial success after all the controversy

Between January 1st and February 14th, 2022, most sales of Cyberpunk 2077 were from the PC version. With the new-gen coming on February 15th, the title’s overall sales have doubled. The majority of sales were made on the PS5 and a “significant share” on the Xbox Series – but no numbers were specified.

As of April, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 18 million copies since its release. For those who “arrived in the world” full of controversies, even the futuristic RPG is doing well commercially. These numbers are super expressive after the whole fiasco in the launch. The game managed to sell more than “finished” games. Unfortunately, a big part of these purchases probably involves users that pre-ordered the game and didn’t ask for a refund. Apart from the PC version, the first console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 were seriously unplayable.
