The unforgivable curses will be present in Hogwarts Legacy. This was confirmed in the latest trailers and it was no different at Gamescom 2022. Now, Avalanche Software has released a snippet where it is clear: players will be able to choose whether (or not) to learn Cruciatus, one of the three “Unforgivable Curses”.
Anyone who has read or followed the Harry Potter saga knows how Cruciatus works. It’s not just uttering the spell and causing pain to your target, “you have to really want to cause pain, take pleasure in it”, as Bellatrix Lestrange, responsible for torturing Neville Longbottom’s parents, said.
In Hogwarts Legacy, the premise seems to be the same, and the player-controlled wizard will be able to choose three options before moving on. Look:

In a forgotten passage below Hogwarts, a choice must be made. The dialog lines available to choose from are as follows:
- “Alright, I don’t want to learn the Cruciatus curse.”
- “I want to learn the Cruciatus curse. But you must use it on me.”
- “Teach me the Cruciatus curse and I will use it on you.”
Whether or not learning the spell will have any negative impact on the story remains to be seen. We’ll have to wait until February 10, 2023, the game’s release date, to find out more. The game will reach past-gen consoles and the current ones like Xbox Series and PS5.
