Netflix recently stepped into the gaming world. The streaming service now provides free games for subscribers. Mostly these games are a redirect to already available games on Playstore but without any charges. We have also seen some exclusive Netflix games too, but nothing too surprising. Now, Netflix is planning to step up in the gaming market with its own video game studio. The streaming service has announced to launch a video game studio in Finland.
With its own video game studio, the streaming service will be aiming for original high-quality games. The current Netflix Gaming service is not so important to subscribers. However, Netflix is keen on improving it.
I would also say Finland is a good choice for a video gaming studio as there are multiple other big developers there. The development studios including Supercell and Rovio are present in Finland, which makes it a perfect region to find talent.
Aamir Rahimi I, VP of Game Studios also shares his thoughts on this announcement:
It’s still early days, and we have much more work to do to deliver a great games experience on Netflix. Creating a game can take years, so I’m proud to see how we’re steadily building the foundation of our games studios in our first year, and look forward to sharing what we produce in the coming years.
Should Netflix integrate a cloud gaming service?
Netflix should also think about integrating a Stadia-like cloud gaming service. With its huge subscriber base, it will be a hit. For those unaware, cloud gaming service doesn’t depend on the hardware but rather the internet connection. You can play any game you want without hardware requirements with just high-speed connectivity.
That being said, Netflix’s video game studio is a step in the right direction. We are excited to see future Netflix games!
