For any multiplayer game, matchmaking is an important element. For starters, matchmaking should be quick. A long queue leaving players angry is the last thing a developer will want. For competitive games, there is also one more important factor. The matchmaking should be fair. Imagine a new player pairing up with a player from the high-ranking lobby. It will just ruin the gameplay for everyone. Hence, fair matchmaking is important. For Overwatch 2, this is a big problem. Even after major matchmaking changes, players are still unsatisfied.
Overwatch 2 is a first-person shooter game, and games in this genre really need fair matchmaking. However, the game has not the best matchmaking system integrated. Previously, the developer addressed this issue and came up with a better matchmaking system.
Matchmaking is tweaked, but players are still not happy
This may sound like a modest improvement–reducing MMR spread in matches is a really tricky problem. The main way we improve it is to be smarter and smarter about how we matchmake groups.

MMR is a vital system in Overwatch 2 which is responsible for balance matches and rankings. Server Engineer Morgan Maddren claimed that there are changes done to the MMR. He has said that to improve matchmaking, there is now a narrower spread of MMR. With this, players can expect faster matchmaking. However, the issue of unfair matchmaking still exists. Players are still left disappointed. The new MMR change may have escalated the matchmaking process by matching “people from every possible rank.”
Maddren assured the players that the developers are still working on the matchmaking. Although, this may take some time. For a competitive game like Overwatch 2, there should be no compromise on matchmaking. Just consider you are a new player and your opponent is from a high-ranking lobby. You will be disappointed by thinking that the opponent is a hacker. Well, I hope Overwatch 2 comes up with a better system. They need to fix the unfair matchmaking so that players can enjoy a fair game. That said, make sure to stick around for the latest gaming updates.
