Announced during September’s State of Play, Rise of the Ronin is a project by Koei Tecmo supported by SIE. The game has a confirmed version for the PS5. However, some players still had hopes that the game could show up on PS4. Unfortunately, if you’re hoping for one more game to keep your PS4 alive, this is not the case. Rise of Ronin is exclusive to the next generation.
The game’s page on the PlayStation website has been updated. Sony reported that the action RPG will be exclusive to the new generation. You can see the response from the Japanese giant in the “frequently asked questions” section:
“No. Rise of the Ronin will not be available to play on the PlayStation 4 console.”
It’s hard to not see some similarities between this game and Ghost of Tsushima. But apparently, Rise of Ronin has a more linear approach. Also, the period is different. The game’s story takes place at the end of the 300-year Edo Period, near the end of the 19th century. Japan sees a crisis, having to deal with “oppressive rulers and deadly diseases as Western influence spreads. At the same time, you will have to deal with the civil war rages between the Tokugawa Shogunate and opposing factions”.
Rise of the Ronin is in development at NiOh and Ninja Gaiden’s Team Ninja and Sony XDEV. The game’s launch is set for 2024. The visuals of the game look quite nice, and it seems to be coming to offer a very immersive experience in feudal Japan. With the success of the Ghost of Tsushima, we are seeing more and more games exploring this landscape. Let’s see if Rise of Ronin will be a similar hit.
It’s not a big surprise to see the game being a next-gen exclusive. By 2024, we don’t think there will be many titles for the PS4. It’s sad for those who were not able to upgrade, but it’s inevitable. It’s time to go on with the next generation.
