After many days of rumors and cryptic teasers, Mortal Kombat 1 is official. Instead of Mortal Kombat 12, we are getting Mortal Kombat 1! The universe restarts right after the events of Mortal Kombat 11. In this new world, we will see the story through the eyes of Liu Kang – Fire God – protector of Earthrealm. The “reboot” will bring back popular characters like Mileena to the story. Unfortunately, the trailer did not bring any kind of gameplay. We got a cinematic trailer that confirms the return of popular characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Mileena, Kitana, and Liu Kang. Surprisingly, the trailer also confirms the game’s launch date for September 18.

Seeing the game’s launch in September is one of the biggest surprises. To recall, this has also been anticipated by some leakers. One curious fact is that the game will offer Shang Tsung as a playable fighter only for those who pre-order the game. A similar thing happened with Shao Kahn. But it was also available for a separate purchase after the launch. Hence, this probably will not be your only chance to get Shang Tsung. The producer also revealed that it is preparing some beta-testing trials for August. The exact dates will be announced later.
MK1 will come for the PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC. The game promises a vast amount of fighters. Furthermore, it will bring “re-imagined versions of iconic characters”. In addition to regular fighters, the game will also bring a new system with support fighters called “Kameo Fighters”. The Kameo Fighters are part of a unique list of partner characters that will help you in the fights. This will create multiple possibilities for your gameplay. These characters are chosen separately from the main list of fighters.
As per the rumors, NetherRealm plans to bring a set of Warner Bros characters to the game. The rumors mention Peacemaker from DC Comics and Homelander from The Boys. Of Course, we will still need to wait for official info. With Mortal Kombat 11, the company took months to reveal all the fighters coming with its Kombat Pack 1. So we expect a similar treatment for Mortal Kombat 1.
NetherRealm also confirmed that the game will bring a story mode. It will offer a cinematographic experience. This will be further detailed in the future, as well as the online gameplay options.
