During the PlayStation Showcase Sony has finally announced its new take on handheld gameplay. But don’t get the wrong idea, this is not a revival of the PlayStation Portable series. Instead, we’re getting the rumored PlayStation Q Lite. It arrives as a handheld gaming device for remote play. It looks like a DualSense with an 8-inch screen separating the two portions of the controller. According to SIE’s Head Jim Ryan, the new product is coming later this year and will be exclusive to PS Remote Play.
PlayStation Q has been announced at last
We have a device with a Switch-like design, or some sort of Backbone One design. It’s like a tablet-like screen in a sandwich of DualSense halves.
“Innovation is our passion, and that applies to not just what games you play, but how you played them”. Ryan said: “Later this year we will launch a device that enables you to stream any game from your PS5 over Wi-Fi”,
In other words, Sony will launch a luxurious product that will do what any smartphone with PS Remote Play can do.
“Internally known as Project Q, it has an eight-inch HD screen and all of the buttons and features of the DualSense wireless controller. We look forward to sharing more information in the near future”.
The announcement makes it clear that games will need to be installed on the PS5 since it’s the console’s native hardware that will run the game. Also, the PSVR games will not be supported by the device, for obvious reasons.
Honestly, we don’t know what Sony plans with this device. Depending on the cost, we also don’t have high hopes for it. It may be cool for those who have large areas and want to play in other places than in front of the TV. But you can already do that with your smartphone via PS Remote Play. If you have a good controller, you will get a similar experience. This just looks like a luxurious accessory that won’t be appealing to many players.
