AMD is decided to set some fire on the competition for the budget gaming segment. After the rise of the NVIDIA RTX 4060 series and the ARC A770, it’s time for a new cheapest AMD Ryzen 7000-series GPU. The company introduced the new AMD RX 7600 desktop graphics card as the cheapest to date. This is the third entry in the new RDNA 3-based cards and is the cheapest one yet.
AMD Radeon RX 7600 specs and features
The AMD Radeon RX 7600 is a third of a card when we look at the flagship RX 7900 XTX. It has a third of the compute units and ray accelerators at just 32. It also has a third of the stream processors at 2048, and a third of the texture units at 128. The Infinity Cache has also been reduced to a third to 32 MB, and the video memory has also been reduced to a third to just 8 GB GDDR6. Seriously, there are a lot of “thirds” here. The new card comes with a boost frequency of 2,655 MHz and an average game frequency of 2,250 MHz.
The 8 GB GDDR6 memory is clocked at 18 Gbps but with only a 128-bit memory bus. It gives a total bandwidth of 288 GB/s. AMD states that the new Radeon RX7600 graphics card offers 29% more performance when looking at the RX6600. If we compare it with the NVIDIA RTX 3060 8GB, it has 34% more performance on average at 1080p.
Other features include AV1 encode and decode support. It also has HDMI 2.1 (48 Gbps), and DisplayPort 2.1 (54 Gbps). There is no USB Type C on this model. Further, the card has a total board power of 165W and works off a single 8-pin connector. The RX7600 starts at $269 and will be available directly from AMD on AMD.com as well as from board partners. These include ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, and other important names in the industry.
The starting price of $269 is really impressive for what the GPU offers. It’s a new budget option for those who are okay with moderate gaming settings and don’t want to pay more than $300. The timing and pricing of this release are not mere coincidence. A few weeks back, NVIDIA unveiled its RTX 4060. The base 8 GB model comes with a $399 price tag. The RX 7600 will compete directly with this GPU.
