Something is troubling Pokemon fans. The latest Scarlet and Violet games are considered Generation 9, right? Well, according to the latest news, it is not Gen 9 but Generation 11. Were we giving it the wrong generation, and how do the new games jump straight to Gen 11? Let’s find out all the details below.
The news comes from CentroLeaks. According to the news, the new Pokémon Home update has some datamined code that identifies Pokémon Scarlet and Violet as Gen 11. This contradicts the common belief that they are part of Gen 9. The reason for this difference might be related to development; the same code shows that Pokémon Home is labeled as Gen 8, which matches its release time, but the games that came after it have their own generation numbers.
For example, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is Gen 9, and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are Gen 10. This is the opposite of how they were released, which could suggest that they were developed in a different order.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will remain Gen 9 despite what Pokemon Home suggests
For now the main highlight is that the
Pokemon SV games are being considered as Gen 11 – at least according to Pokemon Home datamined code. However, it makes no sense since the Legends: Arceus, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl do not sum up to make a whole new generation.
It is also worth-noting that the concept of the Pokémon franchise existing in Generations actually originated as a fan-made term. It is not something official, and hence we can carry on beliving that Pokemon SV in indeed the Gen 9.
After all, we cannot just give Gen 10 / Gen X to remakes. It should be a special generation, and the Pokemon community is quite exicited for it. We are not expecting to see a new Generation this year, since the dveeloper is busy with the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s DLC. For the time being, you can check out my concept of
Humanoid Pokemon for Gen 10.
