Kai Cenat is a highly popular Twitch streamer and is currently the most followed on the platform. The 21-year-old decided to give away some PlayStation 5s and gift cards, but it turned out to be chaotic. As the saying goes, “With great power comes great responsibility,” and Cenat forgot the trouble he could cause. As a result, the influencer was charged by the NYPD.
It all started with a giveaway – Kai Cenat along with another streamer Fanum decided to give away a large number of PS5s and $100 gift cards. He chose to make this giveaway physical at Union Square Park at 4 PM ET. Little did he know, even Union Square Park would be too small to accommodate his huge follower base. As a result, the park was jam-packed one hour before the scheduled time.
Things got worse when Cenat arrived at the park. As he exited his vehicle, the huge crowd collapsed on him and his crew. The people were uncontrollable, and hence the NYPD (New York Police Department) had to take action.
People thought they would win PS5 instead got broken bones
According to the report, there were 65 arrests, including 30 juveniles. Several civilians and police officers were sent to the hospital to get their injuries treated. Many people suffered from broken bones, and one teenager was also harmed by fireworks.
You can check out the huge crowd in the below video:
Kai Cenat was charged with counts of inciting a riot and unlawful assembly. On Saturday, he was released from custody. He will be facing court on August 18th. On Instagram, the team behind managing the giveaway apologized, saying, “We apologize to all of those impacted, and we are fully cooperating with local authorities.”
The Twitch stream announcing the giveaway has 2.5M views; however, he seems inactive after the incident. There are no more new streams or YouTube videos from Kai Cenat.
