Sony announced a weekend with free multiplayer in compatible games. It will take place between September 16th and 17th. During this period, players will be able to enjoy online modes without the need for a PS Plus subscription.
Free Multiplayer For All PlayStation Players
This is an opportunity to get in on the multiplayer action, hone your skills in online competitions, and invite friends to co-op sessions. During this period, those who have not yet tried the online connection because they do not have an active subscription to the Sony service will know in part how the network experience works.
However, it is important to note that the service’s regular benefits, such as monthly games and exclusive discounts, remain available only to active subscribers. Therefore, this trial period is solely for trying out games that support online multiplayer without the need for a subscription.
With free multiplayer released, games like GTA V, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, and others like FIFA 23, which have an online mode, will have their online environment released on PS4 and PS5. This may also be a good opportunity for those who preordered Mortal Kombat 1, are on access to the game, but didn’t have PS Plus to enjoy the online multiplayer modes.
Obviously, Sony does this from time to time to attract more players to its subscription-based plans. Besides allowing players to enjoy online multiplayer content, the PS Plus subscription plans also give them access to monthly games or an entire catalog of games in the higher tiers. Sony recently announced price hikes for all its PS Plus fronts, and that brought a certain backlash from the community. Perhaps, the free weekend is to calm down those who are upset.
