Steam Deck 2 Launch Confirmed But With a Bad News

Handheld gaming consoles are back in action. Steam Deck started this trend and now the market is full of different options. From the newly launched Lenovo Legion Go to the pretty Asus Rog Ally, we have a ton of handhelds. Since the Steam Deck was the one launched first in the major trio, it also has older hardware. Don’t get me wrong, the Steam Deck is quite capable and the cheapest. But the competition is so high that Legion Go and Rog Ally decided to leave Steam way behind with their superior hardware. Hence, the gamer community is wondering when Valve will come out with Steam Deck 2.

Steam Deck is said to sold 1.62 million units in 2022. However, the trend is not going down anytime soon. It is estimated that this year will mark the 3 million units sold milestone. But with the current high competition, we are wondering when a new powerful Steam Deck 2 can make an appearance.

Steam Deck 2 is not coming soon

Steam Deck 2 Launch Confirmed But With a Bad News

Thankfully, now we have some details. Valve has officially revealed some information. First, the good news is that Valve has officially confirmed that there will be a Steam Deck 2. However, Valve employee Pierre-Loup Griffais who confirmed this also states some time to wait for the console. He said that we might not see the Deck 2 until 2025 or even 2026.

This is quite devastating that Steam Deck 2 won’t be available until at least 2 more years. With the current high competition, the original Steam Deck is likely to lose its spot. Hence we wanted something sooner. Whatever the case is, Valve has decided to take its time for the next handheld.

Pierre-Loup Griffais also hinted that performance increase will be the major goal in the next handheld but without the compromise of battery. This makes sense since battery life is a critical part of any handheld console. Griffais states there may not be big advancements in battery technology. However, since the processors are now built on smaller architectures, they are much more efficient ultimately giving more battery juice.
